FAQs

What is this Database?

Compiled by the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) as part of its JUST Stories project, the database is a first-of-its-kind, practical resource sharing examples of inclusive net zero transitions and adaptation. It has been created to help practitioners across business, finance, government, and civil society discover inspiring and impactful solutions that can be replicated and scaled, ultimately supporting just transitions to a more sustainable and resilient future.

What does the database aim to achieve?

This database showcases the breadth of action, actors, and innovative approaches already guiding the path to net zero and more resilient communities. The initiative aims to inspire a domino effect of proven and scalable solutions that can help guide climate investments, inspire more learning-by-doing, and encourage the sharing of ideas about how to advance human-rights centered, inclusive, and efficient climate action.

What makes this database different?

What makes this database unique is that it focuses on net zero projects that prioritise the rights of people most impacted by net zero and their inclusion in project decision-making - from workers or Indigenous peoples, to diverse local communities or consumers.

Is inclusion in the database an endorsement of projects?

No. The database aggregates publicly available examples of people-focused mitigation and adaptation solutions around the world, at various stages of implementation and maturity. It is not an endorsement of the projects included or an assessment of their quality or impact. There is likely no such thing as a ‘perfect’ just transition or adaptation solution, and whether projects achieve ‘just’ outcomes and true resilience will unfold for years and decades to come. But by sharing examples and learning from various approaches being trialled, we hope to inspire a groundswell of action and catalyse investments into proven solutions.

What is JUST Stories?

This database is part of JUST Stories, a project dedicated to finding and telling stories of people working together to advance just transitions and locally-led adaptation. This search has unearthed a diversity of projects piloting different ways of putting affected stakeholders and their human rights at the centre of planning for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future. It is a complement to the in-depth, long-form features the JUST Stories project is known for, aimed at demonstrating the breadth of approaches being trialled across the globe.
